Is there any specific advice around animal bites?

Rabies is prevalent in many parts of the world, if a person develops rabies it is fatal. To avoid catching this disease:

– Do not touch any animal

– If you are licked on broken skin, scratched or bitten by an animal in a country where the risk of rabies is high: wash the wound thoroughly with soap and running water for 10 – 15 minutes, then apply an antiseptic solution if possible e.g. iodine or alcohol. Such precautions also apply if you are licked by the animal with their saliva coming into contact with your eyes or inside your mouth (essentially any mucous membranes)

– Seek medical advice IMMEDIATELY, even if you have been previously immunised, this is absolutely essential

– The British consulate may be able to advise on the availability of vaccines and where to go.

What to do if I feel unwell abroad?

Your travel insurance company may be able to direct you to the best place to go. The medical facilities are generally better in bigger cities and towns than in rural areas in developing countries.

Needles and syringes may be reused in poor countries, this can result in the transmission of infectious diseases such as hepatitis B, C and HIV. If you are visiting these places, it may be best to consider a sterile equipment pack including clean syringes and needles.

Contact the British Embassy is you are admitted into hospital, they may be able to liaise with your insurance company on your behalf.

PCR Fit to Fly/ Fit to Work

Can you explain the process of getting a COVID-19 test?

Depending on the guidelines from the government of the country you are travelling to, travellers may be required to conduct a laboratory PCR test for COVID-19, performed by a certified laboratory before their trip.

Our PCR testing kit is a home sample collection kit. The sample collection can be completed in your home as the testing and results processing will then be carried out by our partner certified laboratories. The COVID-19 test result is accepted for travel by many countries.

When the traveller must collect their sample depends on the requirements of the country to which they are travelling. As such, it is the customers responsibility to find out this information and complete their swab accordingly. When registering the kit each traveller has the option to input their own swab time.

Our laboratories recommended logistics partner for is DX as they can quickly return the kits to our laboratory (Monday – Friday) to ensure a fast turnaround time for you. Alternatively, you can use another next day postal service at your own discretion and cost.

You will receive an email when the sample has arrived to our partner laboratories and your results will aim to processed and reported to you in 12-24 hours.

I am required to have a test within 72 hours of travelling, what is the process?

You must calculate 72 hours before the time of your arrival and the swab must be taken within that time, please ensure with your courier that the swab will be delivered to the lab next day.

For example if you are travelling on Thursday you must:

How accurate is the test?
